While working at DMM, a social media advertising agency, I worked as an Art Director on a series of animated advertising campaigns for Epic Games. The project focused on creating high-impact 3D motion ads designed specifically for mobile and social media platforms. The Challenge

Mobile advertising presents a unique set of creative constraints.

Ads are competing for attention within extremely fast-paced environments where users often decide within seconds whether to continue watching or scroll past.

The campaigns needed to:

  • Capture attention immediately

  • Communicate clearly without relying heavily on sound

  • Maintain strong visual readability on small screens

  • Stay aligned with Epic Games’ visual standards

  • Deliver polished animation within tight production timelines

Because the assets were designed specifically for social and mobile platforms, pacing, composition, typography, and motion all needed to be optimized for short-form viewing behavior.

The overall creative direction focused on producing visually energetic advertisements that felt polished, cinematic, and platform-native.

The campaigns combined:

  • 3D animation

  • Motion graphics

  • Dynamic typography

  • Gameplay-focused visuals

  • Fast-paced editing

  • Bold compositions

A major priority was ensuring that each ad communicated key information quickly while still feeling visually engaging.

Motion design principles such as exaggerated movement, strong silhouette readability, rapid visual pacing, and high-contrast compositions were used to improve clarity and retention on mobile devices.

My workflow involved balancing creative quality with the fast turnaround demands of digital advertising production.

Projects often moved through:

  • Concept development

Because these campaigns were intended for mobile advertising placements, special attention was given to:

  • Safe zone composition

  • Vertical and square aspect ratios

  • Readability at small sizes

  • Performance-driven pacing

  • Immediate visual impact within the first few seconds

Reflection

This project strengthened my ability to work within fast-paced production environments while balancing creative direction, technical execution, and marketing performance goals.

As an Art Director, it reinforced the importance of designing specifically for platform behavior rather than simply repurposing traditional advertising assets.

The experience also deepened my understanding of how motion, composition, pacing, and visual hierarchy can dramatically influence audience engagement within short-form digital advertising.
